The foundation of my retail management experience was
obtained from the time I spent working for The
North West Company. My career with The North West Company spanned four and a
half years in five different locations.
Initially I was posted in Coral Harbour as a
Managment Associate working in general merchandise. Although GM was my main focus I
also learned how to process basic office transactions.
After one year I was transfered to Baker Lake where I
continued working in GM and expanded my office training. During the year and a half
I spent in Baker Lake I was also Christmas co-ordinator and facilitated the H&R
Block income tax program in the store.
After Baker Lake I was sent to Clyde River to gain
some experience working in the Grocery Department. After a year in Clyde River I
moved to Arctic Bay where I ran the grocery department and spent one month running
the entire store while the store manager was on holidays.
It wasn't long before I was offered the Grocery
Manager position in Cape Dorset where I worked until I decided to leave the north
and move to Ottawa. In Cape Dorset I was required to perform some more manager
relief duties.
